Chick-fil-A has come under major fire recently for comments made by the company’s president in opposition to same-sex marriage. The company has announced that on Wednesday, it set new records for sales. Wednesday was deemed “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” by Mike Huckabee.
“While we don’t release exact sales numbers, we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day,” said Chick-fil-A’s executive vice president of marketing, Steve Robinson.
Huckabee is the former governor of the state of Arkansas and he said that people all over the United States should “affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse.” He said this can happen by everyone showing up at the restaurants on August 1. Thousands of people took Huckabee’s advice and went to the 1,600 locations across the country.
In July, the president of the company, Dan Cathy, discussed his company’s stance on gay marriage in an interview with The Baptist Press. He said that he was ‘guilty as charged for supporting the biblical definition of the family unit.’ Cathy also said that ‘God’s judgment on our nation’ is invited by gay marriage.
Despite the record day of sales for the company, YouGove, a polling company, said that the approval ratings for the company have dropped significantly because of the media coverage of Cathy’s comments.
