A judge is considering imposing a gag order Monday after Sarah Jones, a former cheerleader for the Cincinnati Bengals, fired back to the rumors and gossip against her, especially regarding the nickname given to her as “the female Sandusky.” She is accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student, sending him sexual texts, and then later instructing him to “deny everything.” Jerry Sandusky was recently convicted of 45 counts of sexually abusing 10 young boys. The comparison seems to have deeply rankled Jones, as she spoke to ABC news with these words:
“I read on a blog that I was the female Sandusky. To read those things and not be able to comment, not be able to stick up for myself is not fair. I just ask the general public to maybe hold their judgment a little bit longer until the truth comes out.”
In April she had pled not guilty to the charges of first-degree sexual abuse and unlawful use of electronic devices. Since then, she has had to endure blogs like Nik Richie’s, The Dirty, which in 2010 featured anonymous posts alleging she had sex with the entire Bengals team, had STDs, and had sex in her own classroom. Jones sued Richie for defamation, libel, and invasion of privacy.
In response to that, she spoke in an interview with Anderson Cooper that “One day I was this credible teacher that they looked up to and listened to. The next day I was a slut to them. I had a student come in and say I cannot come into my classroom and learn because you had sex in here and you’re a slut.”
Kenton Circuit Judge Patricia Summe is concerned that this sort of publicity could make it difficult to seat a jury, and that Jones is ignoring the gag order request.
