On Thursday of last week, a woman reported seeing a floating body in the Susquehanna River. So, what should be more shocking: seeing the dead body floating along or seeing that supposedly dead body rise from the water and then walk towards you? The woman who reported the body was Sue Hubbard, from Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The woman was so positive that the body was that of a dead man that firefighters, the coroner and police officers responded to the river.
As emergency responders were figuring out how to best remove the body from the water, the man stood up and walked towards them. He was wearing a life jacket.
“Let me tell you, it was quite a shock for us,” Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. said. “He was bobbing up and down in the water and he really looked like he was dead.”
“I said, ‘It’s a miracle!'” Williamsport Police Captain Michael Orwig exclaimed.
The man who was in the water was Joseph DeAngelo. He told authorities that he was simply taking a nap in the water. It was reported that he woke up when a dragonfly landed on his nose.
“I didn’t mean to worry anyone,” said DeAngelo. DeAngelo also said that on a hot day it is nice “just to float and forget your troubles.”
