Joe Biden and Paul Ryan Discuss Stimulus Thoughts

During the Vice Presidential debate on Thursday night, Vice President Joe Biden enjoyed a good laugh at the expense of Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan. Biden laughed at Ryan’s attacks on the stimulus, with Biden pointing out that Ryan asked for stimulus funds for his district in Wisconsin.

“I love my friend here,” Biden said. “I’m not allowed to show letters here, but go on our website. He sent me two letters saying, by the way, can you send me some stimulus money for companies here in the state of Wisconsin?”

The stimulus has repeatedly been criticized by Ryan, claiming that it is an example of out-of-control spending by President Barack Obama and his administration. During the debate, Ryan did admit that he asked for funding for his district.

“On two occasions we advocated for constituents who were applying for grants,” Ryan said. Ryan made sure he noted that congressional members typically ask for funding for the people they represent in their districts.

Biden enjoyed those comments made by Ryan.

“I love that, I love that,” Biden said while chuckling. “This is such a bad program and he writes me a letter saying — writes the Department of Energy a letter saying — the reason we need this stimulus, it will create growth and jobs. His words. And now he’s sitting here looking at me. I wish he would just tell the — be a little more candid,” which is when Biden prevented himself from labeling Ryan as a liar.

“By the way, any letter you send me, I’ll entertain,” Biden said directly to Ryan before the topics changed.  Ryan said, “I appreciate that, Joe.”
