Hurricane Sandy Bashes the East Coast

Hurricane Sandy has managed to harness all the contingencies to make “the perfect storm.” After moving inland it is excepted to join a winter storm coming from the West and cold air from the arctic, leading to a storm surge of 4 to 11 feet in many places across the Eastern Seaboard. Add to that the full moon, and New York City and Long Island are expecting a huge surge of seawater.

New Jersey Gov. Christ Christie said “Don’t be stupid. Get out.”

The hurricane is expected to hit most of the Eastern Coast — Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, all the way to the Great Lakes.

Subways and trains have been turned down in many major cities, and 7,000 flights in and out of the East have been cancelled.

Though hundreds of thousands were instructed to flee the coast, it is at this time too late for such measures.

President Barack Obama declared emergencies in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

“My message to the governors as well as to the mayor is anything they need, we will be there, and we will cut through red tape,” said Obama. “We are not going to get bogged down with a lot of rules.”
