Morrison Cohen Adds Terence McLaughlin

The law firm of Morrison Cohen, which employs 90 attorneys, has added an attorney from Willkie Farr & Gallagher to its litigation department, according to the New York Law Journal. The lawyer, Terence McLaughlin, joined the law firm on November 1. McLaughlin was with Willkie Farr & Gallagher for 17 years. He worked there originally as a summer associate and became a partner at the firm in 2005.

McLaughlin said that he likes how Morrison Cohen has clients in the middle-market, which is more in line with his practice. He represents corporations and business executives in litigation along with hedge funds and financial institutions in litigation.

“As a relatively young person, I was looking at how to go about building a business at a $900-plus billable rate,” he said. “I felt that [Morrison Cohen] was a more interesting platform.”

The paper was not able to obtain a comment from a Willkie Farr spokesperson about McLaughlin leaving the firm.

The practices that Morrison Cohen operate are real estate, employment law, corporate law, litigation, bankruptcy, intellectual property and tax. The managing partner for Morrison Cohen, David Scherl, said that McLaughlin will offer a ‘significant role’ with the firm’s current clients.

“We also expect that institutional clients that have worked with Terry prior to joining us will welcome our dramatically more rational billing rates,” Scherl said.
