Mentally Disabled Woman Raped in Broad Daylight on Los Angeles City Bus; Suspect Escapes

Police have made an arrest of a man possibly guilty of raping a mentally disabled woman on a public bus in Culver City near Los Angeles. At around 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, a mentally disabled 18-year-old woman with the mental capacity of a 10-year-old boarded the bus at the same time as an unidentified black male looking to be around the ages of 18-20. Cameras in the bus caught his picture, and only now have police made an arrest.

“The suspect followed her to the rear of the bus where she sat down,” said sheriff’s officials. “The suspect, without any warning or provocation, stood and faced her while position himself between her legs and assaulting her.”

He assaulted her for ten minutes, during which the only other passenger notified the best driver, at which point the suspect was already exiting the bus. The woman then reported the crime to the bus driver.

“She did not scream or shout. She was too afraid to do so,” said Sgt. Dan Scott with the LA County Sherriff’s Department.

Considering the crime was done in broad daylight, the police surmised that such boldness on the part of the criminal indicated he could be a repeat offender.
