Brownells says the company has never faced such a buying surge, and by the statistics the company has given, if the spate of orders continues until the end of the year, the company can comfortably do without selling another gun until the next election.
Brownells posted on the magazine situation, “First of all I wanted to offer an apology for the situation … the demand for magazines actually exceeded the ability for the system to keep up with the volume that was being ordered … we’ve been receiving orders at such a pace that … transactions have gotten slower.”
The company adds, “it really has been unprecedented … the 36 hour period from Sunday afternoon to Monday evening we sold the “average demand” equivalent of about 3 ½ years worth of PMAGS, and an even greater amount of our Brownells magazines. We’re working like crazy to get these orders to you as quickly as possible.”
Huffington Post reports that in an interview, the owner of ArmsX, a gun store near the Sandy Hook Elementary where the killing of the children took place, said that unprecedented orders and sales were spurring the longest wait-times for background checks he’s ever seen. According to ArmsX, the highest selling weapon of choice was the AR-15 type of rifle, the same used in both the Colorado and Connecticut massacres.
