British actress Kate Winslet, who rose to fame in the 1997 movie “Titanic” has married Ned RocknRoll, a nephew of Richard Branson, her publicist confirmed on Thursday. The marriage was held privately and the ceremony was attended only by “a very few friends and family,” according to Winslet’s spokeswoman. The couple is learned to have been engaged since summer this year.
According to the Sun newspaper, the wedding in New York was kept so secret that even the parents of the couple were unaware of the event. According to Sun, Leonardo DiCaprio, who was co-star of Winslet in the “Titanic” gave her away from the bride’s side.
However, Richard Branson was in the know, and has gifted Winslet with a ticket to space as wedding gift. The Sun reported that she had the offer first from Branson, when she rescued his mother from a fire on his Necker Island retreat.
According to Telegraph, more than 530 people have already purchased tickets on Virgin Galactic flight to space, which would be taking the passengers 60 miles above the earth. Other passengers on the ship to space would include comedian Russell Brand, actor Ashton Kutcher, and science genius Stephen Hawking.
This is Kate Winslet’s third marriage. Her first marriage was in 1998 with Jim Threapleton, which ended in 2001. In 2003, she married film director Sam Mendes and divorced him in 2010.
Winslet is a powerful actress who had been nominated for six Academy awards, and won one Academy award for her lead role in “The Reader.”
