Actress Brooke Mueller decided to sue the rehabilitation facility she used for treatment. In the lawsuit, Mueller claims that the facility sold confidential medical information to the media, according to TMZ.
The facility, The Canyon rehab facility located in Malibu, is at the center of the lawsuit. Mueller first sought help at the facility in February of 2010, which was in the middle of her domestic violence case against Charlie Sheen.
Just a couple of days after Mueller checked into the facility, media outlets broke stories about Mueller seeking treatment for substance abuse at the facility, according to the lawsuit. Mueller claims that staff members at the facility leaked the information to the media.
Mueller’s patient admissions document was sent to members of the media after she checked into the facility. The document was sent to multiple media outlets, including TMZ, which specifically outlined the problems Mueller was suffering.
Mueller said that the release of her document was a grab at money by the staff members at The Canyon in Malibu. She has sued the facility for an undisclosed amount of money. In the lawsuit, Mueller said that her right to privacy was violated.
No comment or statement was issued by The Canyon, but officials from the facility said that it would conduct its own internal investigation after the original story broke about the release of Mueller’s private documents.
Sources close to the situation told TMZ that the amount of the settlement between Mueller and The Canyon is worth roughly $250,000.
