Texas Tech Law Student Competing in Miss America Pageant

A student from Texas Tech School of Law is going to compete for the title of Miss America, according to a report from KFYO 790 AM and Business Insider. The student, DaNae Couch, is in her third year in law school and is amongst 53 contestants going for the title on January 12.

The event will be held at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, which will be broadcast live on ABC.

“One of the things that I believe sets me apart for the title of Miss America is the fact that I’m an advocate,” said Couch. “I’ve learned advocacy through law school and I want to continue to use that as Miss America.”

Couch is a native of Coppell and she needs her fans to vote if she wants to continue. Just one contestant who receives the highest number of verified votes will be able to participate as a finalist in the Miss America competition. Voting closes on January 11.

Couch won the Miss Texas competition to reach this level.

“I definitely want to practice law and I’m trying to figure out exactly what I want to do right now, but I really have a passion for litigation because I love the ability to use my speaking skills to help other people,” Couch said in her Miss America contestant video.

Couch has earned over $30,000 in scholarships through the program despite many thinking that a law student should not be participating in beauty pageants.

“And thanks to Miss America and thanks to my parents, I’ll be able to graduate from both Baylor and from Texas Tech School of Law completely debt free,” she said.
