New York, N.Y. — January 22, 2013 — The international law firm Chadbourne & Parke LLP today announced that Margarita Oliva Sainz de Aja, a leading banking and finance lawyer, has joined the firm as an international partner in Chadbourne’s Latin America group. She will divide her time between Chadbourne’s New York, Mexico City and São Paulo offices.
Ms. Oliva specializes in advising lenders and borrowers on a wide range of corporate finance transactions, including structured financings and other secured and unsecured U.S. and cross-border financings and capital markets offerings. She also has extensive experience in project finance matters, representing multilateral and bilateral agencies, private financial institutions, sponsors and ECAs to structure and negotiate complex, multi-jurisdictional infrastructure and energy transactions. Prior to joining Chadbourne, Ms. Oliva was Senior Counsel at Allen & Overy LLP.
“We are delighted to welcome Margarita to the firm,” said Chadbourne Managing Partner Andrew Giaccia. “With her impressive corporate experience, strategic insight and strong relationships in the region, she is a great addition to our Latin America practice and will be a tremendous asset for our clients.”
“Margarita’s experience working on corporate and project finance transactions across Latin America will enhance and expand our capabilities to service clients across the region as our Latin America practice continues its robust growth,” added Allen Miller, head of Chadbourne’s corporate department. “We are also excited by the many new client opportunities she brings to Chadbourne.”
Chadbourne is the only international law firm ranked by 2013 Chambers Latin America in all six ranking categories for international law firms. The ranking categories are: Banking and Finance, Capital Markets, Corporate/M&A, Insurance, International Arbitration, and Projects. Chadbourne was also ranked across multiple disciplines in the inaugural issue of Legal 500 Latin America 2012.
Ms. Oliva joins a leading Latin America practice that is on a growth trajectory. Last September, Silvia Fazio joined Chadbourne’s São Paulo office as an international partner. Ms. Fazio also maintains the London office’s Brazil desk for Chadbourne with new staffing based out of London. In December, Chadbourne announced that Clara Krivoy, a corporate member of the Latin America group resident in New York, had been elected to the partnership.
Ms. Oliva earned her J.D. from Universidad de Granada in Spain and her LL.M. from Harvard Law School. She is dual qualified to practice law in Spain and New York.
