According to sources, the CEO of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer, has a major problem with lateness. Multiple sources have said that Mayer is repeatedly late for meetings with Yahoo executives who report to her, according to Business Insider.
One of the rumors is that Mayer ‘blew off’ a one-on-one with the CEO of Unilever. Unilever is one of the largest clients of Yahoo. Reportedly, when she was at Google, Mayer kept ‘office hours,’ much like a college professor. She told people that if they wanted to meet with her that is when they should visit.
One source who worked with Mayer at Google then said, “everybody had to publicly sit outside her office and she would see people in five minute increments. She would make VPs at Google wait for her. It’s like you’ve got to be kidding.”
Business Insider published an email from someone who claimed to be an employee of Yahoo. The email said, “There has not been a single meeting or event here that since she has taken the helm, she arrives on time, not one. The amount of wasted time and anger building up from her lack of caring or understanding that it isn’t just her time that matters is astounding. She is routinely over an hour late for things.”
Business Insider showed that email to an a person who has met with Mayer, and likes her work at Yahoo, and he said, “Yep, that complaint is fair.”
A source who worked with Mayer for quite a while and knew about her lateness issues, said that she probably picked up the bad habit from Google, who said that “pretty much all management” had a lateness problem.
“Crises pop up in one meeting that then spill over into every other meeting. And then the rest of the senior execs are late, which then cause their staff to be late.”
