Delaware law firm Grant & Eisenhofer has hired Chicago attorney Adam Levitt, one of the most well-known consumer action lawyers in the country. Levitt will lead the Chicago office, with whose inauguration Grant & Eisenhofer would be having four offices nationwide.
Found in 1997, Grant & Eisenhofer is known for representing investors and shareholders in class action litigation against big companies. With Levitt joining the firm, it would now begin accepting consumer cases with a higher frequency.
The press release by Grant & Eisenhofer mentions Levitt has directed major consumer and business class actions, recovering more than $1 billion in the last two years for plaintiffs; currently litigating cases against ConAgra, DuPont, and Porsche and that he will be “expanding firm’s platform to include high-profile consumer litigation.â€
The release further mentions, “The addition of a consumer class action practice broadens Grant & Eisenhofer’s notable litigation platform. G&E’s caseload over the last several years has grown to include bankruptcy, antitrust, whistleblower and false claims litigation – in the latter the firm has gained record recoveries from cases tied to deceptive foreclosure practices by banks as well as off-label marketing abuses by the pharmaceutical industry.â€
The co-managing directors of G&E, Stuart Grant and Jay Eisenhofer told the press, “We’re extremely happy to welcome Adam to the firm – his arrival gives us a major launchpad in establishing a high-profile, national consumer practice … Consumer class actions are a natural outgrowth of our historic practice litigating on behalf of investors. Adam’s success in representing consumers and business owners in high-stake cases, such as the genetically modified corn and rice litigation, adds an important dimension to our caseload.â€
Levitt is currently President of the Class Action Trial Lawyers division of the National Trial Lawyers. He is also an elected member of the American Law Institute and an Advisory Board member of the Institute for Consumer Antitrust Studies. Mr. Levitt has testified before the Illinois Supreme Court Rules Committee on class action practice and related issues.
Prior to joining G&E, Levitt was a partner with Wolf Haldenstein in Chicago.
