It was revealed in an exclusive story by The New York Post that former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino fathered a child with a CBS employee and paid her to stay quiet about the affair.
Marino works as an analyst for the network and is scheduled to work the network’s coverage during Super Bowl Sunday. The woman in the story is Donna Savattere, who was 35 at the time and was working as a production assistant at the Manhattan studio of CBS Sports.
Savattere gave birth to a girl in June of 2005 and named her Chloe.
“They had an affair, and she had a baby,” said a source. “Everything was on the down-low and secretive.”
In a statement, CBS said the following: “Dan has said all there is to say on this matter, and will be in his usual role on our broadcast Super Bowl Sunday.”
Yesterday, Marino admitted to the affair and the child, saying, “This is a personal and private matter. I take full responsibility both personally and financially for my actions now as I did then,” he told The Post in a written statement. “We mutually agreed to keep our arrangement private to protect all parties involved.”
When Marino had his affair he was married to wife Claire for 20 years at the time. The couple has six children, four sons and two adopted daughters. Chloe was born two months prior to Marino’s induction into the Hall of Fame.
“My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years and have six children together,” he wrote yesterday — which happened to be his 28th wedding anniversary. And we continue to be a strong and loving family.”
Marino paid Savattere millions to take care of Chloe and she moved to Texas as part of the agreement. Sources were not able to pinpoint how much money Marino paid to Savattere as part of the deal, but she began to live life in a large way.
Savattere then began splitting her time between the Upper West Side and the Hamptons, where she jumped into the social world. Sources have said that Marino has talked to his daughter, who is now seven.
“They would have impromptu meetings, which was part of the deal,” a source said. “Donna was always saying she had to go meet with her lawyers to go over the scheduling and other issues.”
Savattere is married to Nahill Younis, whom she originally met in 2009 in the Bahamas. She has even petitioned to change Chloe’s name to Chloe Alexis Younis from Chloe Alexis Savattere.
