Beyonce Admits to Lip-Syncing at Inauguration

During a news conference for Beyonce’s scheduled Super Bowl halftime performance this weekend, the singer wanted to prove that she can sing the national anthem as a professional. She decided to sing a live version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” on television without any backing tracks.

When her performance was complete, Beyonce said, “Any questions?”

At the news conference, which was dominated with questions about her lip-syncing the national anthem during President Barack Obama’s inauguration in January, Beyonce finally admitted that she used a backing track.

“I am a perfectionist … I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra [at the Inauguration]. It was a live television show and a very important moment for me.”

“Due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking the risk … so I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry. And I’m very proud of my performance,” Beyonce said during the press conference.

when a reporter then asked Beyonce if she was going to be singing live during her Super Bowl halftime performance, Beyonce responded, “I always sing live.” She would not say if she would be using a backing track or not.
