Lessons

Hej.

My weekend at home was emotional. It was exhausting. It was activity-packed. It was rewarding. It was great.

I learned a lot this weekend, from my family and friends and from myself…

I learned that sometimes there’s no need to be “appropriate.”

I learned that I CAN sit through an entire Super Bowl football game.

I learned that making it to the gym is not always a high priority.

I learned that taking the time to center yourself in the morning can make all the difference.

I learned that you should always go through your old stuff before tossing it out, you never know what kind of gems you’ll find.

I learned that our parents never really grow up.

I learned how important it is to focus on other helping people instead of yourself.

I learned you should always drop what you’re doing and say “yes.”

I learned that your family and the friends who have become your family should be cherished and appreciated every chance you get.

I learned what kind of person touches the lives of thousands, and can only hope that I am a fraction as compassionate as she was.

I learned to pay attention, to treat every person with respect, to be present.

What do you think should be added to this list? What should we all learn and try to remember?

Fill in the blank: I learned ______.

Kathryn Wheeler: My name is Katie and I moved to Chicago in 2010 for law school and graduated in May 2013. I'm originally from Kansas City, MO and I did my undergrad at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. I started this blog in August of 2011 because I needed a creative outlet and I wanted to write about my life in a way that other women could relate to and realize that they aren’t alone in many aspects of their lives.
