Photos went viral this past weekend of seven men who were discovered sitting on plastic chairs in Mexico. All of the men had been shot in the head and had messages nailed to their chests with ice picks, according to the Daily Mail.
The bodies were found early Saturday morning in Uruapan, Michoacan state. One note on one of the men’s chest said, ‘Warning! This will happen to thieves, kidnappers, sex offenders and extortionists.’
According to local police, the seven bodies were placed sitting in the chairs near a roundabout and no motive was given by the local attorney general’s office. They were discovered outside of a Pepsi bottling plant. Some of the bodies had their feet and hands tied. Ages of the men range from 15 to 40.
On Friday, seven other people were killed in Guerrero when armed men opened fire in a bar in Ciudad Altamirano. Of the seven killed in this incident, three of them were off-duty federal agents. The off-duty officers were followed by gunmen while they walked to a bank in the area. They were killed when they entered a hotel.
A rise in violence has been seen in both states on the western coast of Mexico because of drug cartels. Close to 70,000 people have died because of drug-related violence over the past seven years.
