In a video from CNN, a third member of SEAL Team 6 has spoken about the death of Osama bin Laden. The third member’s account questions previous accounts of the raid in Pakistan on bin Laden’s compound.
The account told in the CNN video lines up with the story told by Matt Bissonette, the SEAL who wrote “No Easy Day” using the pseudonym of “Mark Owen.” These two accounts differ from the story published in the February issue of Esquire.
The difference appears to be the comment made by the SEAL member named “The Shooter” in the Esquire article. The SEAL member said that bin Laden might have been reaching for a gun when he was hot. The other two accounts claim that no gun was near bin Laden when the shot was fired.
A former Navy SEAL and current military blogger, Brandon Webb, has shot down many of the claims made in the Esquire article. He has shot down those claims with information from SEAL sources.
In response to the CNN report, Esquire released the following statement:
The Esquire article, The Shooter: The Man Who Killed Osama Bin Laden, in the March 2013 issue, is based on information from numerous sources, including members of Seal Team 6 and the Shooter himself, as well as detailed descriptions of mission debriefs. We stand by our story.
