On Monday, 11 partners from Bingham McCutchen’s securities-enforcement practice resigned their positions to join the firm of Sidley & Austin, according to The New York Times.
The former head of enforcement at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Susan L. Merrill, and the head of the practice group, Neal E. Sullivan, are two of the 11 partners who left the firm for Sidley & Austin.
Claire Papanastasiou, a spokeswoman for Bingham, confirmed the move and wished all of the partners well in their new endeavor.
The chairman at Bingham, Jay S. Zimmerman, said the following when Merrill was hired three years ago, “Susan is a recognized leader in the securities field,” Jay S. Zimmerman, chairman at Bingham, said at the time. “Her arrival to Bingham exemplifies our investment and commitment to building the strongest securities team and advising clients in the most complex matters, nationally and globally.”
Herbert F. Janick III is also leaving for Sidley with Merrill and Sullivan. Janick is a former senior member of the enforcement division of the S.E.C. and general counsel of UBS Financial Services. The move comes just months after Geoffrey F. Aronow, a former member of Bingham’s securities-enforcement practice, left for the S.E.C. He now works there as general counsel.
