There are some inferences to be drawn from the U.S. News and World Report that ranked law schools and tuitions. What we see is that New York is full of some of the most expensive law schools, with tuitions that keep rising, and yet their ranking isn’t even all that great, and in some cases up to half the students have no job whatsoever after nine months. What more precautions do we need to beware of them?
We see that yes, we have Columbia University, both the most expensive law school, with a tuition of $55,488 a year, and also ranked number four on U.S. News, with most of its graduates getting jobs. But how do the others rank?
Brooklyn is ranked 80th, with tuition of $49,976 a year, and 21.5 percent of its 2012 grads had no job at all. Yeshiva charges $50,046 a year, is ranked 58th, and 35 percent of its students hadn’t found a job after nine months. Fordham University is ranked 39th, charges $49,526, and half of its law students didn’t have a job after nine months.
With 6 figures in student loans and half the students doing nothing at all for work after nine months – New York might not be the smartest place to attend law school, unless you are going to Columbia. The market still is a depressing place for JDs, but it is getting slightly better by the year.
