Leading Chinese Law Firm Opens First American Office

One of China’s leading private law firms announced the opening of its first American office in New York City. Zhong Lun Law firm already has offices across China and in London, Tokyo, and Hong Kong, and their New York office sees the firm expanding their practice into the American market.

The New York office of Zhong Lun Law Firm will be led by Philip Zhang and T.K. Chang, two senior attorneys who have 50 years of private practice experience with international law firms between them. The office will also be supported by the more than 40 partners at Zhong Lun offices around the world who hold United States law degrees.

“We will try to be a problem solver for U.S. companies doing business or investing in China,” said Chang, who holds degrees from Harvard and Yale and has several years of experience practicing law in New York City.

Zhong Lun Law Firm was established in 1993, and was one of the first law firms to be approved by the Chinese Ministry of Justice.  The firm currently has over 700 licensed lawyers, 160 of whom are partners. The firm’s name translates to “compliance with ethical principals,” and its focus on transactional, IP, real estate and tax law has helped countries from all over the world establish businesses and conduct deals in China and around the world.

The opening of the firm’s New York office coincides with the firm’s 20^th anniversary. Founded in Beijing in 1993, Zhong Lun Law Firm merged with another Beijing law firm, Jintong, in 1996, becoming Zhonglun Jintong. The firm rebranded itself as Zhong Lun in 2008.
