UGA Names Lonnie T. Brown Jr. as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs

The University Of Georgia School of Law named Lonnie T. Brown Jr. as the new Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Brown joined the faculty in 2002, and will be replacing Paul M. Kurtz, who is retiring.

His new role at the University of Georgia School of Law will be a continuation of his lengthy and distinguished academic career. Brown served as an assistant professor at University of Illinois College of Law and as a visiting assistant professor at Vanderbilt University. He specializes in civil procedure and legal ethics, and is the current holder of the A. Gus Cleveland Distinguished Chair of Legal Ethics and Professionalism. In his time at the University of Georgia School of Law, he has received the Student Bar Association’s Professionalism Award six times and has been presented with the Ellington Award for Excellence in teaching. He was twice chosen to be an honorary faculty marshal at graduation.

Brown is an active member of Georgia’s legal community, and serves on the Drafting Committee for the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam and the State Bar of Georgia Formal Advisory Board. Before joining academia, he practiced law for 8 years as an associate and partner at Atlanta’s Alston & Bird.

“I am confident Lonnie will do an excellent job for us all,” said Georgia Law Dean Rebecca Hanner White.
