United States-based litigation giant Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP, announced earlier today that John Rhie has joined the firm as the chair of the Asian International Arbitration practice, and, pending regulatory approval, will be the managing partner of the firm’s first office in Hong Kong. If all goes according to plan, Rhie will be joined by Carey Ramos, who will also work out of the Hong Kong office as a senior partner.
“We have been planning the opening of another office in Asia for some time, and of course we would like this to be in Hong Kong, when we get the approvals,” said the firm’s managing partner, John Quinn. “John is a perfect fit for our international arbitration platform and our Asia strategy in particular. Carey brings a wealth of experience in representing Asian companies in complex business disputes. Together, John and Carey present a formidable team to expand our practice in Asia.”
Rhie joins Quinn Emanuel from the Seoul office of Kim & Chang, one of the most prestigious law firms in Korea, where he has concentrated on international arbitration. He also lectures on the subject, and serves as an adjunct professor at Seoul National University.
Ramos is a recognized expert in media and intellectual property expertise, and will be concentrating on complex business litigation in cross border disputes and international arbitration at Quinn Emanuel’s Hong Kong office, helping to develop the firm’s international arbitration practice in Asia.
“We are committed to this region and to the international arbitration practice and I look forward to contributing to the legal community in Asia for many, many years,” said Rhie.
