The winning numbers from the drawings at Saturday night were 10, 13, 14, 22 and 52, and the odds of winning the jackpot had been put at 1 in 175 million. We can just hope whoever purchased that ticket can remember where he/she put it, and come forward to claim the fortune.
Connie Barnes a spokeswoman of Florida Lottery has confirmed that up to Sunday morning, no winner has come forward, but the winning ticket was sold at a Publix supermarket in Zephyrhills in Tampa.
The Multi-state Lottery Association, which is based in Iowa, made the announcement of the Powerball results on its website observing, “There was one winner sold by the Florida Lottery for the last drawing’s $590,500,000 grand prize.”
The hype over Powerball Jackpot had worked up so much that Reuters reported one spokeswoman for California Lottery remarking that $1 million worth of Powerball tickets were selling every hour in California on Saturday.
The present jackpot broke the records of the previous Powerball Jackpot which stood at $587.5 million.
According to Florida Lottery, the winner does not need to appear in public to claim or accept the prize, but his or her name would be put on public record as a check would have to be made in the name of the winner.
Until now, the record of the biggest jackpot in U.S. history is held by the $656 million Mega Millions lottery of March 2012. While that prize was split between winners from Maryland, Kansas and Illinois, this one would be going to whoever has the ticket in Florida.
