Toddlers and Tiaras continues to skirt the line between showing cute kids enjoy a pageant and showing child abuse from bizarre and over-competitive parents. With last night’s season premier, we meet the cute and hyperactive Alexa. Sure, she’s bright and funny and silly – but perhaps that’s not normal childlike exuberance? Her mother prepares her a cup of coffee each morning with a heavy dose of sweetened creamer: she says she’s done so since Alexa was 9 months old. She also claims that the child’s doctor says it’s okay.
“Wheeee!” exclaims Alexa on camera, hopped up on caffeine. But that’s not all she’s on. The mother also makes her Tinker Tea. As she explains it, “Tinker Tea is soda, sweet-tea, and pixie sticks all together,” which becomes a dark green color, as Gawker reported. The soda is usually Mountain Dew. Is drinking this sugar cocktail bad? Her mother explains:
“She does drink Tinker Tea every day, but what child doesn’t drink juice? She hardly ever drinks juice, and that’s 98 percent sugar anyways.”
No wonder the kid won “Mini Supreme” at the pageant, and in an interview kinda babbled on about nothing in particular. Poor kid! We hear about fashion models taking drugs to make the stress of the career work out. Shame to see such a practice beginning so young.
