Fifty Shades of Grey Fans can mark their calendars: the bestselling book will be in movies (and not porn theaters) on August 1, 2014. The date has been set, but as for who will have the lead roles, that is not yet known. The book, called pornography for women by some of its critics, has a strong sexual theme that would require, one would imagine, a fitting steamy role for the protagonist, Christian Grey.
“#FiftyShadesofGrey is now a shade closer,” Tweeted Focus Features, who will be making the big-screen adaption.
Well what do we know? Robert Pattinson is involved. He threw the director Nicholas Jarecki a birthday party, and Fifty Shades author E.L. James was invited. Stephen Amell will not be Christian, nor will Armie Hammer, but perhaps Alex Pettyfer will be, and let’s not rule out Ian Somerhalder and Ryan Gosling. Nevertheless, it is uncertain who will be the lead role, nor what actors or actresses will be involved with the project.
The director, meanwhile, will be Sam Taylor-Johnson, who vowed to “honor the power” of the book. The book details the torrid affair of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey with college student Anastasia Steele. It has sold over 70 million copies worldwide.
