Ben Affleck and his wife Jennifer Garner celebrated two events this weekend, both the baptism of their son and their own 8 year anniversary. Their son, 16-month-old Samuel, was baptized on Sunday at the Christ Church United Methodist in a formal ceremony in which their 7-year-old daughter Violet was “very well-behaved,” but 4-year-old Seraphina “was running around, and Ben had to keep getting up to run after [her],” as one eyewitness explained. Sounds like a typical family.
Sunday’s baptism followed a Saturday night hanging out at local Pies and Pints where they ate pizza and beer, after which the couple hit up Ellen’s Homemade Ice Cream where Affleck tipped employees $100 apiece.
Perhaps his expansive mood rendered him so generous, but the pizza joint, for one, said that “Ben and Jen like to come in when they’re in town. They’re just really solid people. They seemed like they were having a great time.” They seem to be regular customers, hanging out at one of their favorite eateries.
On Saturday Night in May, Affleck cleared the air about his Oscar speech when he called his marriage “work”:
“Some uncharitable souls on the Internet took that to mean our marriage is some kind of manual labor,” Affleck said. “That’s not it. You define what’s important to you by what you dedicate your time to.”
His wife Garner joined him on stage, “It’s a way we talk privately about how committed we are to our marriage.”
“I’m not sure why you had to share it live to a billion people,” and she said she would have called their marriage “a gift.”
Affleck ended their joking with the words, “I want to tell you how I wish I had ended that speech: I couldn’t do any of the things I do without you, without your support. You’re my angel, my life, my world.”
