Shakira’s ex boyfriend Antonio de la Rua has been blocked from accessing her bank accounts by a court in Geneva. In a legal war between Antonio and Shakira being played in courtrooms across the world, this happens to be the latest turn. Antonio and Shakira have lawsuits against each other in Los Angeles, New York, the Bahamas, and in Europe. And like the Apple – Samsung war, this one is also over intellectual property.
Antonio De la Rua claims that he was instrumental in developing the Shakira’s personal brand and image during their decade-long romance. He claimed ownership rights to Shakira’s Swiss bank account as that account holds a majority of the assets resulting from his and Shakira’s alleged verbal agreement.
The judge said the evidence provided by la Rua was insufficient to prove a professional agreement enforceable on a bank.
The decision of the Geneva court comes in wake of Shakira filing a declaration in Los Angeles County Superior Court stating that Antonio had admitted in emails that he had never had any stake in Shakira’s companies.
As evidence, the copy of an email sent by de la Rua to Shakira’s mother was attached as an exhibit with Shakira’s declaration. The email, apparently addressed to Shakira’s mom, read, “Just so you know, I am not Shakira’s partner in coquito or any of her other companies. We have everything very neatly and she is the sole owner and beneficiary of her companies.”
Shakira contends that de la Rua was only a “business advisor” who had been compensated for the services he had provided.
Antonio de la Rua is the son of former Argentine president Fernando de la Rua. He claims that he was instrumental in making real Shakira’s $300 million deal with Los Angeles-based Live Nation.
