31 year old Glee star, Cory Monteith was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room on Saturday. Monteith’s body was located at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel around noon. The Vancouver Police Department passes their condolences onto the family, friends, cast, and fans of Mr. Monteith, acting chief of police Doug LePard said. According to the authorities, Cory Monteith checked into the hotel on July 6, and would have checked out on Saturday. Staff noted that he never checked out of the hotel and went into his room and that is where they found him. When the Paramedics arrived, they declared him dead. An autopsy is scheduled today and there is no foul play suspected in the actor’s death. The actor was alone at the time of his death.
Cory Monteith was born in Calgary Alberta, and was raised in Victoria, British Columbia. His parents divorced when he was young. He went to 16 different schools, including one for troubled teens. He also abused drugs and alcohol. At 19, he checked into rehab. Though he had previously dropped out of high school, he went on to receive his diploma. He started his acting career and starred in the films “Final Destination 3” and “Deck the Halls.” He was on TV shows like “Smallville,” “Supernatural” and “Stargate SG-1.”
In 2009 Cory Monteith was accepted for the role of Finn Hudson on the show “Glee.” His part gave him thousands of fans and he won a Teen Choice award in 2011. The cast of the show Glee also won a Screen Actors Guild award for best ensemble in a comedy. He will also be appearing in an upcoming independent film “All the Wrong Reasons.”
Cory Monteith seemed to enjoy a full life, and when he wasn’t performing in the U.S., Canada or Europe, he enjoyed hockey, baseball, surfing and playing the drums. He had seemed healthy and happy, although he entered rehab this past March. His friend Adam Shankman, who often directed episodes of “Glee,” commented on his friends’ death on Twitter, “goodbye my amazing and beautiful friend. The lights in my world just grew dimmer. The world just lost one of our best. I love you so much.”
Sadly, fans mourn as they worry that Monteith has followed in the footsteps of other celebrity overdoses like Brittney Murphy, Megan Connolly, Heath Ledger and hundreds of musicians and artists who used dangerous drugs and ended up dead somewhere. However, an official cause of death for Monteith has not yet been released. According to the Huffington Post, Monteith is survived by his parents, his older brother Shaun and his girlfriend, actress and co-star Lea Michele.
