Jesse Tyler Ferguson of “Modern Family” married lawyer Justin Mikita this Saturday. He tweeted to his fans and followers, “top of the world. Top of the cake!” He included a cute picture of a custom cake topper in his tweet. Jesse Ferguson had been dating his now husband, Justin Mikita, for two years. The pair got engaged in September, according to the LA Times.
The marriage took place in New York, at 82 Mercer street and was star studded. Famous and fabulous attendees included Zachary Quinto, the new Mr. Spock of the Star Trek reboot, famous fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi, International Model and former wife of Nobel prize winning author of The Satanic Verses Salman Rushdie, along with stars from Hollywood, Bollywood and around the globe, including Rebecca Romijn, Nigel Barker, and the “Modern Family” cast.
The Emmy winning show “Modern Family” is a comedy in a “mockumentary” style, that demonstrates that the “American” family is constant in certain regards, but in others, is in a flux, changing in its constitution and size and culture. It shows that happiness can come in any ethnicity, age or sexual orientation for members of a family. The show attempts to bridge every possible slant on “normal” views and adjust them with the social dialogue of the question “What constitutes a family?” in the United States at this time.
The show has gone on to win awards for its writing, plot, acting and concepts. Ferguson’s role on the show is as the protagonist’s son who is gay and living with a partner and an adopted daughter. Jesse Tyler Ferguson has received two Emmy Award nominations in 2010 and 2011 for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for his work on ‘Modern Family’.
As the wedding’s after party went on until the early morning at the Crosby Street Hotel, Ferguson tweeted, “never been happier.” As a note on the recent downturning of the California law DOMA, Justin Mikita tweeted, “Husband. Not Partner. We’ve worked hard to call each other husband…so let’s start using it. K thanks.”
