Now that George Zimmerman has been acquitted of the charges of murdering Trayvon Martin, you can expect your peeved Facebook friends to rant endlessly about it. In fact, Facebook has reported the highest number of “De-friendings” over comments on the issue, some of them perhaps citing such videos as this, in which “white” surfers “riot,” or, as it appears, seem to be getting carried away in prankish behavior, only for the description of the event to wax poetic in affected irony that “something must be done about today’s white youth.” The simple act of displacement against “black riots” over Trayvon Martin might make one groan and say, “enough, I’ve really heard enough over this issue.” Who really has time to hear some flippant article that is dripping with self-satisfaction telling us “the culture that brought us Socrates, Aristotle, Cicero, Shakespeare, Charlemagne, Aquinas, Descartes, Newton, Washington, Lincoln, has lost its roots, and resorted to its genocidal qualities as when they attacked the North American Natives and imposed slavery over blacks, now that they’ve gone into a riot.” Or something clever and vapid and annoying.
Complaints about such statistics that “though 94 percent of murdered blacks are killed by blacks, 84 percent of whites are killed by whites,” and so on and so forth make the entire “dialogue” annoying. We need the next big thing, this has gone stale.
There is a threshold with how many sarcastic “bumper stickers” and comments one can hear about a politically charged opinion before the interest turns to revulsion, and we say enough is enough.
