David S. Almeida has joined Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton as a partner in the firm’s business trial practice group and privacy and data security practice according to the Chicago Business Journal. Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP has offices in the United States, Europe and Asia with more than 630 attorneys in 15 offices.
The National Law Journal named David Almeida a “Chicago Rising Star” this year. Mr. Almeida received his J.D. from Cornell in 1999. Almeida has experience from Sedgwick where he had been the co-chair of the firm’s privacy and data protection group. Joining Sheppard Mullin from Sedgwick along with partner Almeida is associate David M. Poell. Craig Cardon, the co-chair of the privacy and data security practice at Sheppard Mullin commented that David Almeida is a “prominent authority on a variety of issues that concern privacy, direct mobile marketing, emerging payment systems and social and digital media,” according to BizJounral.com. Co-chairman Cardon mentions that Almeida adds “significant depth and breadth,” to the firm’s expanding privacy practice.
As more and more cases come to light looking to expand on the concept of “privacy” as companies, citizens other entities experience it, privacy practice expansion is well timed moving forward. The right to privacy argument continues, even as social media and closer digital representations of a persons’ identity lower barriers and accessibility to personal data in the public space.
