The final obstacle has been surmounted now that the American Bar Association has approved the sale of Texas Wesleyan University School of Law to Texas A&M University. The sale of $20 million, which will cost another $5 million in the next five years, is a bonus for both universities. It diversifies the professional programs offered at A&M, letting them offer further possibilities to their schools, but it also gives Wesleyan a chance for a makeover, as A&M intends to raise the schools’ stature from an unranked third tier school to something more competitive.
“We appreciate the mutual dedication required to make this dream a reality and look forward to welcoming our first class to the Texas A&M School of Law,” Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp said, as Tamutimes reported, referencing the new school’s name, which will be Texas A&M School of Law.
The two schools have been working industriously since their decision last June to make their school union a reality, with staff working overtime to work out the fine details.
“We are very pleased with the ABA’s formal decision,” Texas Wesleyan President Frederick G. Slabach said. “Many staff and faculty at both universities have been working long hours over the last year to get us to this point. This has been an extremely collaborative process, and I am grateful to those who have made this a reality.”
