A federal judge threw out Lisa Jackson’s race discrimination claims, which were meant, probably, just as a ploy for Lisa to gain money from Paula Deen. As Deen’s lawyers said, the racial claims were “scurrilous and false” and were used as a threat to publicly embarrass Deen for Jackson to secure “huge sums of money.” But the judge saw no reason why Jackson, who is white, should benefit from making such claims at all.
In a 20 page opinion from U.S. District Court Judge William T. Moore Jr., he said that Jackson has no standing to sue on alleged claims that black workers were poorly treated, whether or not she was personally offended or stressed thereby.
At best, Jackson “is an accidental victim of the alleged racial discrimination. There is no allegations that defendant Hiers’s racially offensive comments were either directed toward plaintiff or made with the intent to harass her.”
Well yes, the entire charge was merely one of intimidation to threaten to embarrass Deen and her brother Bubba Hiers. So far the alleged sexually harassment charges brought against Bubba Hiers stand. Hiers was primarily in charge of running Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House, with Deen co-owning the restaurant.
“We are pleased with the court’s ruling today that Lisa Jackson’s claims of race discrimination have been dismissed,” Elana Weiss said to The Associated Press. “As Ms. Deen has stated before, she is confident that those who truly know how she lives her life know that she believes in equal opportunity, kindness and fairness for everyone.”
Though Deen has acquired a new legal team, the court motions to dismiss all race-based claims were filed in December under her old team. Whether more of Jackson’s claims will be dropped as equally bogus remains to be scene, but Deen, at least, is not the primary focus on the remaining charges.
