Dave Chappelle Strikes Back at “White, Evil” Hecklers

Comedian Dave Chappelle struck at his hecklers in Hartford, CT. He called the crowd  “evil [and] a bunch of young, white, alcoholics.” Chappelle went on stage to perform in Chicago yesterday evening, and started criticizing Hartford, CT. He had a nasty stand off with the crowd there when loudmouth non-fans got out of control during his set.

Dave Chappelle has only recently come back form his personal sabbatical and hiatus from the touring entertainment and comedy business. Dave Chappelle has had minor roles in several films, but his break came when with his famous show, The Chappelle show, which had comedy skits with controversial topics like racial stereotypes and also regular jokes on pop culture. Chappelle’s self-imposed hiatus according to him was to “refocus and rebalance” himself. Though intense speculation has gone on considered whether or not Chappelle had drug problems. He himself has said that the industry is “intense” and that working “20 hours a day” he never got a “chance to mourn his father’s death.”

Chappelle has since come back into stand up, what he has said he loves best. Currently Chappelle makes unannounced appearances at comedy venues across the country, as well as impromptu visits for quick sets at comedy shows and festivals. Chappelle was heartily heckled by the drunken youths and apparently took it to heart. He went on to say that although he would never want anything terrible to happen to the United States, “if North Korea ever drops a nuclear bomb on this country, I swear to God I hope it lands in Hartford, Connecticut.” His hecklers at that show must have hit a nerve, because the comedian says that he wanted to call them all “crackers or something crazy like that.” Chappelle notes that he will never likely come back to Hartford, or perhaps even Connecticut. Dave does admit that the audience saw him break the fourth wall, and see him respond radically. He admits the anger he felt was outside of his ‘safe’ zone. He comments, “that s**t’s like being at a f**king tiger show the night Siegfried and Roy got their throats bit out by the tiger…you don’t go to see somebody be safe,” according to TMZ.

After he was heckled, he told the audience to “boo themselves.” The comedian had only been performing on the stage for several minutes when the loudmouths disturbed his set. He sat in silence on his stool for several minutes there. He compared his options with what he did with that time that evening, and he felt like his time had been wasted. “I could’ve went on TV, I could’ve read the phone book for 22 minutes. I could’ve [done my show.] My show only has to be 22 minutes and I would’ve got $50 million dollars. [But] …my ego wouldn’t let me. Tonight my contract says 25 minutes and I have 3 minutes left. When my 3 minutes is up, my a** is gone.”
