In case you wanted some celebrity’s take on the president, Samuel L. Jackson’s is passable. In an interview with Playboy’s Stephen Rebello, he suggested the president “stop trying to ‘relate’” and “be fucking presidential.” What he meant, specifically, turned out to be a grammatical issue. President Barack Obama apparently drops his g’s from words to better relate to regular people, as Rebello suggested.
Jackson ranted a bit about kids these days and their lack of respect for elders, and the atrocity of using “your” instead of “you’re” in twitter, and other such preoccupations a 64-year-old might have.
Regarding Obama’s grammatical crimes, he said, as the Huffington Post reported “First of all, we know it ain’t because of his blackness, so I say stop trying to ‘relate.’ Be a leader. Be fucking presidential. Look, I grew up in a society where I could say ‘It ain’t’ or ‘What it be’ to my friends. But when I’m out presenting myself to the world as me, who graduated from college, who had family who cared about me, who has a well-read background, I fucking conjugate.”
Aside from the semantic nuances of the presidential gab, he commented on his own previous comments to Ebony magazine, saying he hopes “Obama gets scary in the next four years.” This is impossible though, because of a deadlocked Washington.
“He got a little heated about the kids getting killed in Newtown and about the gun law,” he said in the Playboy interview. “He’s still a safe dude. But with those Republicans, we’re now in a situation where even if he said, ‘I want to give you motherfuckers a raise,’ they’d go, ‘Fuck you! We don’t want a raise!’ … How do we fix the fact that politicians aren’t trying to serve the people, they’re just trying to serve their party and their closed ideals?”
That is, he slipped from a rant about kids these days and grammatical crimes, to those fucking politicians in Washington. Not unlike an interview other grandfathers might make, without, of course, the platform of being a well-known celebrity.
