Man Tries to Pay Bills with Cocaine

Deltona Florida police are looking for a man who attempted to pay his water bills with cocaine. The unidentified man went into the central office at the water department on Monday and gave the clerk an envelope. Another person’s envelope would have had perhaps a money order or a check in it, but this man’s envelope had the illegal drug inside of it.

Hazmat teams rushed in and officials and staff were evacuated from the premises. Two different fire departments sent the substance for forensic analysts and later determined that the white powdery substance was cocaine. The man was caught on surveillance and was shown to have been wearing a T-shirt and shorts while riding away on a bicycle.

The clerk in the water department’s office noted that she hadn’t seen the man before. He had come in, handed her the envelope and left. Police are carrying out an investigation and are searching for the man, according to the Huffington Post.

Cocaine is a crystalline and powdered a psychoactive that is an obtained from the leaves of the coca plant. The naturally occurring chemical compound is highly addictive and is a powerful nervous system stimulant. Cocaine is a Schedule II drug, because it has a high potential for abuse and is considered dangerous.
