In an awesome handwritten letter a concerned father lets his daughter know how he feels. His daughter, addressed as ‘Christine’ apparently chose to kick her son Chad out of the house because he came out of the closet. Grandpa ripped up her shoddy logic and set her straight once and for all.
Using what apparently were the homophobic mom’s own words against her, grandpa uses quotes to turn the situation around on its head. He starts the penned note with the flat out lament and his feelings of disappointment in her as his daughter. He then continues with his sometimes larger sized text, sometimes onceovered bold texts to tell her that she is right in her assessment that there definitely is a “shame in the family.” He then proceeds to let her know that it’s her who is the shame!
This Grandpa said that “kicking Chad out of your home because he told you he was gay is the real “abomination” here. A parent disowning her child is what “goes against nature.” Because grandpa supported Chad and accepted him, it is obvious that he has liberal worldviews and didn’t raise his daughter to be a homophobe. Grandpa uses his daughter’s words against him and turns the tables as he says, “The only intelligent thing [you’ve said] in all this was that you “didn’t raise your son to be gay.” He then says that Chad was born left-handed, and also born gay, and that nothing she could have done was going to affect that.
Lastly, Grandpa takes the cake and hands his daughter a slice as he says that since people are disowning children, he is going to jump aboard that wagon and disown her too. He says in the handwritten note to her, “While we are in the business of disowning our children, I think I’ll take this moment to say goodbye to you.” He finalizes by saying he doesn’t have time for a “heartless B-word” like her because he is raising a “fabulous” grandson. Always looking to build bridges and to reconcile, the last sentence reads, “If you find your heart, give us a call.”
