As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I had the opportunity to go to Goldplaited on Saturday afternoon, a brand new finishing salon in Lincoln Park, Chicago.
I was invited by Mal, who owns the salon along with her sister. They both moved here from LA to open Goldplaited and this was only their second weekend in operation. I was surprised by this because the salon seemed very well put together and everyone knew exactly what they were doing.
The salon itself had a very fresh and open look. I loved the gold and white coloring; it made me feel a little like a celebrity getting ready for an event, as did the offering of champagne or sparkling water and the adorable gold and white straw in my water. Every detail covered!
Mal had offered me a comped blow out and make up application, and since I’d never had my hair blown out before I was a little nervous. I wasn’t sure what they’d do with my curly hair and after mentioning my fears upon arrival, I was assured that my stylist, Vanessa, had worked with many curly-haired girls previously and even showed me a before and after picture of a girl with similar hair as I have.
After getting a quick head massage and wash, Vanessa got started on my hair. I was surprised how quickly she was able to dry it and didn’t even need to use a straightener. Ta da!
After I had my hair done, I headed over to Kristi for make up. I was able to choose from a few different looks and give my input in coloring (which was: do whatever you want!). I chose a look that was a lot more “over done” than I would normally do for myself. I figured, why not!?
I had a ton of fun at Goldplaited. The staff was welcoming and chatty, the experience was relaxing and fun, and the end product turned out very well (if I do say so myself…). Goldplaited is a great salon to go to if you need make up or hair done for a special occasion or big day, and they’ll be rolling out several new services over the next few months. You can see all of their services and the pricing on their website.
You can check out their instagram, where they post plenty of fun before and after shots of friends who have come through the salon.
Here’s mine:
Ta da! Haha.
Have you ever been to a finishing salon?
Are you good at doing make up and hair or do you usually leave it mostly natural like I do?
