Funny ladies, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, have signed a two-year deal to host The Golden Globes according to The Hollywood Reporter. After successfully hosting the television and film award show last year they were immediately asked and welcomed back to the sometimes stressful job. However, being funny seems to come easily to the golden duo. Both have background working on Saturday Night Live and they hit it high with the film Baby Mama, which they acted in together. Apparently, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and Dick Clark Productions know a good thing when they see it by asking the two comedian/actresses back for two more future shows. Their last hosting gig received raving, positive reviews and 19.7 million people tuned in to watch the awards shows, specifically in the 18-49 demographic which was higher than the previous year.
Aside from having nothing negative to say about the Golden Globe hosting gig, the fresh and exhilarating pair also continue to keep their history with NBC. After their success on Saturday Night Live, Fey developed the award winning comedy 30 Rock (starring Alec Baldwin and Saturday Night veteran Tracy Morgan) which ran for seven years. Poehler is currently making waves with Parks and Recreation. When it came down to the golden women, NBC president of alternative and late night programming, Paul Telegdy, said, “Tina and Amy are two of the most talented comedic writer/performers in our business, and they were a major reason the Golden Globes was the most entertaining awards show of last season. We’re elated they wanted to host together again and that they committed for the next two years.” The only drawback is that the Golden Globe hosting gig pretty much cuts them out of being the potential double hosts for the 2015 Academy Awards, but Tina Fey said, “I think the Oscars is just such a bigger task, to sing and dance and do the pre-taped segments and all that stuff.” With Tina and Amy in the lineup, HFPA president, Theo Kingma, is confident that, “Their return ensures that the Golden Globes will once again be the biggest, best and most entertaining awards celebration of the year.”
If you can’t wait to see what Fey and Poehler come up with next you may have caught a glimpse of it at the September Emmys show, when they played along with host, Neil Patrick Harris of How I Met Your Mother. Dick Clark Productions CEO, Allen Shapiro, was quoted saying, “Tina and Amy have a truly unique chemistry, making them one of the most talented and captivating pairings of all time. We are thrilled to have them back in 2014 and 2015.”
