Greg Collet, a Tea Party candidate for Idaho’s house of representatives has come into the spotlight. The man has bashed government spending, has called for the halt of big entitlements, but now it has come to light that his entire family (of ten children) are on Medicaid- the same government health insurance program that he seeks to vote to cut. Mr. Collet is running on a platform that seeks to “dismantle all government programs, according to Gawker.
Collet told NBC, “I don’t think that the government should be involved in health care or health insurance.” Collet is a self-employed software developer, and it was found that his ten children (of which two are biological and eight are adopted) are all Medicaid recipients. People are going mad with the hypocrisy that the Mr. Collet doesn’t practice what he preaches.
While Collet tried to get people to understand, he just dug himself deeper into the grave. Summarizing, Collet feels that participating in government welfare programs does not demonstrate support. He claims to only do it “so that I can take care of my family, or for other financial reasons…because it is the only practical choice.” Gawker’s takeaway of Collet’s hypocrisy was ”It is ok to take part in programs one opposes as long as one does not ‘support’ those programs.”
