Cam Zink may be the world’s craziest mountain biker. For the 2013 Red Bull Rampage on the Oakley Icon Sender in Utah, Zink broke records with the biggest freeride mountain bike step-down backflip ever.
Though his trick was masterful and lauded, Zink was third in the overall competition, as he lost speed in other areas. His 78 foot jump won him the Best Trick Award and adoration of fans worldwide, not to mention applause and shouts of ‘Bravo!’ from the spectators.
Mountain biking uses normal bicycles but sports them off-road over rough terrain. The main differences with mountain bikes and normal bikes are their features that allow them to be more durable. The overall frame of the back is smaller as well as more reinforced, and the handlebars are turned upward so as to give more control to the rider. Notably dangerous, the sport uses wide tires with improved tread for rough terrain. They also a long wheelbase, as well as a more rigid suspension fork- for riders who want to do tricks, like Cam Zink is known for. Like Ski Resorts, there are now mountain bike resorts as well as indoor mountain parks, where obstacle courses or trails can be engaged for riders of every caliber.
