Mayer Brown JSM announced on Monday that Gabriela Kennedy has left Hogan Lovells to join as head of the Intellectual Property and Technology, Media & Telecommunications group in Asia. She will be working from the Hong Kong office of Mayer Brown.
Kennedy’s appointment is the second lateral partner hire in Asia made by Mayer Brown this year. It had recruited project finance lawyer Ben Thompson over from Allen & Overy, in January.
With Kennedy’s appointment the number of partners goes up to sixty at the Hong Kong office of Mayer Brown.

In her 19 years of practice, Gabriela Kennedy has established her presence well in the Hong Kong and Asia markets, and currently she holds the positions of: Board member of the International Institute of Communications (Hong Kong Chapter); Co-chair of the IP Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong; Member of the Council of Governors of Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association Asia; Board member of LtechLaw (premier association of technology lawyers); Board member of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology R&D Corporation Ltd.; Co-chair of the board of directors of the Hong Kong International Literary Festival; and Vice-president and board member of International Women’s Forum (Hong Kong chapter).
Before joining Mayer Brown, Gabriela Kennedy was a partner at Hogan Lovells, and was educated in Hong Kong, England and Scotland. She is dually qualified in Hong Kong and in England & Wales.
A prolific writer, she has written more than 200 articles on IP, ecommerce, telecommunications law and related issues, and she has received the “Best in TMT” recognition twice at the Euromoney Asia Women in Business Law Awards.
