A potential law student has turned to the sometimes unreliable Craigslist to apply to law school. Are you asking “How” or are you still on the idea that this person actually was desperate enough to turn to the online employer? According to Above the Law, he or she is looking for a retired or non-practicing lawyer to write essays, research information for the required papers, and he wants proof that the person answering his ad is really a lawyer. He also wants to apply to nine different law schools in four to five weeks! Well, right away the guy is missing the point of law school and university in general. If he needs help applying to law school, what in the world is he going to do if he actually gets accepted? Was this the kind of person who cheats on every exam in high school and takes credit for work he paid others to do? There doesn’t seem to be any other explanation available, except maybe that the person attempting this ridiculous scheme is suffering from simple stupidity.
I really hope that the former lawyer answering this ad, if any answer at all, does it simply for the money. Then again, in this day and age with ever-increasing, idiotic apps people seem to want on their phone or whatever piece of technology they’re currently coveting, they could be just as dumb as the ad-poster. The person placing the ad is located in Arlington, Virginia and attended Georgetown University, but misspells “Gorgetown.” If you can’t spell the school you studied and graduated from as you prepare to go to law school, something is terribly wrong with you and your unrealistic goals. This unknown lawyer-seeker doesn’t seem ready for any future in the field of law if he can’t even apply by himself.
To make things even more surreal, the person states that he has “high expectations and an exceptional work ethic.” Really? The “help wanted” ad this person shamelessly posted proves otherwise. Perhaps people don’t want to do the extra work today, but there really shouldn’t be such a lack of intelligence thrown around like it’s nothing that important. The law maintains order in our society, even if at times it doesn’t seem just from one party’s view. Maybe television and film have made being a lawyer look fun and easy, not portraying the accurate and detailed work that goes with it. It’s kind of like watching Indiana Jones and saying one wants to be an archeologist, looking for dirt-digging adventure. There’s a bunch of hard work and dedication that goes into any high career choice. Maybe you can cheat, but that just makes everything worse for the cheater and the people affected by the cheating.
