What to do if your school is only batting a 75 percent on the bar exam, and you want to wow the U.S. News & World Report? Increase the all around education that the bar exam exists to test? If not, you can do as the University of Hawaii at Manoa has done, and make it all about the test.
At least they are heading in that direction, offering several workshops a semester to prepare for the bar. For as Liam Skilling said, “When the numbers dropped three years ago, that was part of a national trend. Bar passages rates dropped in every state in the country in 2010. We really don’t know why. Schools have done various things to respond. It matters to all of us so much, knowing that what we’re doing helps students realize their aspirations,” said, and then added weakly, “You cannot be a lawyer without passing the bar.”
You cannot be a lawyer, rather, without having the skill and competence to endure the trials and difficulties the legal profession demands. Whether you pass the bar right away or not is a small part of becoming a lawyer. So such ruses as focusing on acing one mere exam, rather than acing life, acing being a lawyer, does not exactly recommend this university over the others.
Nevertheless, they have managed to raise their pass rates from 75 percent to 83 percent these past few years.
