Ropes & Gray Welcomes Patent Litigator Andrew Thomases

Ropes & Gray LLP announced that well-known patent litigator Andrew N. Thomases has joined the law firm as a partner in the intellectual property litigation group. The firm said that the addition of Thomases added another premier litigator to their IP litigation team which is considered as one of the strongest patent litigation teams in the country.

Thomases has been recognized as a “leading lawyer” in patent litigation by Chambers USA, and has also been named a top IP Litigator in California by the Daily Journal. Thomases’ contribution in representing clients before the ITC, while he was still a partner at Skadden Arps led him to be recognized by The Legal 500.

James Batchelder, managing partner of the firm’s Silicon Valley office and a co-chair of the firm’s technology, media & communications group said, “Andrew’s first-rate track record and experience will benefit clients in our Silicon Valley office and beyond … I’m thrilled to welcome him to Ropes & Gray.”

Thomases has extensive experience in representing clients before the federal district courts in the Districts of California, Delaware and the Eastern District of Texas. His first chair trial experience includes a successful ITC case for a major semiconductor device maker, and two appeals before the Federal Circuit. He was also part of a team and played a key role in obtaining a $50 million plus jury verdict for a medical device maker – a verdict which was one of the largest plaintiff verdicts in California in 2009.

Speaking on joining Ropes & Gray, Thomases said, “I think it’s the best platform in the country for servicing technology clients.” He also said that the firm had a great group of patent litigators and “a team of lawyers across multiple practices and around the world who collaborate to advise clients on virtually every kind of major legal issue they face.”
