A Canadian woman was found guilty Thursday of stalking and harassing actor Alec Baldwin. She said the actor promised her “omelets every morning” for the rest of her life after a sexual encounter.
The woman Genevieve Sabourin, 41, was sentenced to 210 days in jail for five counts, violating a protection order and a contempt of court ruling after her many outbursts in court, according to CNN.
Also issued is a protection order prohibiting Sabourin from contacting Baldwin and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, in any way for five years.
In the three day trial Alec Baldwin’s tearful testimony in a New York City court denied ever having a romantic relationship with Genevieve Sabourin as she claims.
The Canadian actress, who met Baldwin in 2002 during a movie production, testified that Alec Baldwin, who was married to actress Kim Basinger at the time, slipped her his number, which she said she didn’t call.
Almost a decade later Baldwin took her to a Broadway play and dinner in Manhattan. The next morning after a night of sex in her hotel room she testified he made romantic promises before the date ended.
“I make the best omelets in the world and I’d be happy to make you omelets every morning for the rest of your life,” Genevieve Sabourin quoted the actor as saying. Baldwin testified that they were never a romantic couple and that she only imagined there was a relationship.
She shouted in the court at the actor “You’re lying!” Her repeated shouting and interruptions during the three day trial drew a contempt of court ruling that added 30 days to her sentence.
The actress was arrested April 8, 2012 by New York City police after she tried to visit Baldwin at his Manhattan apartment building.
Baldwin’s wife Hilaria Baldwin, who at the time was engaged to him, told the doorman that Sabourin was a stalker and that she would call the police, the doorman testified. Sabourin called Hilaria a prostitute and other derogatory terms before she left the building, the doorman said. During one part of the testimony Sabourin cried, complaining how everyone finds their love, as companions, but she now knows she made the wrong choice with Alec Baldwin.
There were many e-mails and voice mails sent to him along the way. CNN obtained copies of the e-mails. “I am less than 10 minutes away from you tonight. Say “I do’ to me,” said one e-mail. In another e-mail she said she was ready to get married.
“I need to start my new life with my new name…in my new country, help my newly husband, you!”
Feeling defeated in another e-mail she says “ I may have lost all the battle to win your heart over in the past two years, but I’ve learned so much.” In court wiping away tears Baldwin testified Sabourin’s stalking made him anxious and worried for his safety. The stalker just showed up to his New York Home on the day he proposed to his now-wife Hilaria the actor said.
Days later she allegedly crashed an event Alec was hosting at New York City’s Lincoln Center. Sabourin has been arrested several times violating a court order by sending tweets to the actor and his wife. I’m not gonna take a reduced plea for a crime I have not committed” she said before the verdict and sentencing. Baldwin has admitted they had dinner once in 2010 but that was it. He also stated they met through a mutual friend.
