Whitey Bulger sat through the worst insults people could sling at him. Without knowing which ones were accurate, the LA times comments that White was called a “rat, Satan, a coward, a punk, a psychopath, a bag of jailhouse rags, and other names.” He sat through the insults quietly.
After almost two decades of being on the run, the mob man from Boston was captured in Santa Monica California in 2011. During his sentencing he had decided that he wouldn’t speak. He considers the trial nothing more than a farce, a complete sham. As such, he doesn’t want to do more than just sit, according to the LA Times.
Family harmed by Bulgers actions talked of the damage done to their loved ones and them. The crowded courthouse in Boston was filled with weeping survivors and relatives who all had reason to hate the mobster. Prosecutor Brian Kelley commented, “Its frankly hard to know where to start in this case. The defendant has committed one heinous crime after another. He strangles people, he shoots people who are handcuffed, he moves bodies from one place to another, he makes up reasons to extort people for hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
Bulger can face up to life in prison plus some. Families cited corrupt authorities as accomplices for the criminal who has murdered so many.
