‘Black Friday’ Feels like a Month

In a growing trend of ‘Black Friday ‘ one-upmanship,  online and retail stores have begun the cycle of luring consumers to their stores and websites by means of the “Discount” lures, according to the Wall Street Journal. Hopefully this trend while true may just be an experimental phase.

According the the retail analytic’s company ‘Applied Predictive Technologies,’ this new trend isn’t adding more or new sales, but rather just bringing more time for the sales. To the average consumer, its not a bad deal, as it gives them more time to shop great deals.  Unless of course you’re the kind of person who enjoys camping out in front of stores over night with a thermos of cocoa, talking to people whom you’ve never met before in an act of shopping camaraderie.

One should wonder during this time, how the recent announcement by hundreds of  Walmart employees to strike due to their poverty level  wages.  Walmart also ‘warned’ employees that such an action would have repercussions.  One should also wonder, what would Walmart do if they suddenly find themselves in the midst of an employee walk out during this Black Friday event.  Many of their staff are merely working part-time hours as a growing number of employers have cut the work hours of their staff to under thirty hours a week in order to prevent them from having to pay medical benefits to the staff.
